10 tempat-tempat menarik di Sabah (Part 1)

Salam and hye everyone. This  entry is gonna be all about the places to go when in Sabah. Actually, my family trip there was happened early this year but I did not have much time to write and share about it since I’ve been so busy with my Master study and viva. We went there by AirAsia flight that we booked about a year before, so long huh? I almost forgot we have a trip later :D

The trip was 3 days and 2 nights which we started at the capital city first (Kota Kinabalu or KK), rode up the highland of Gunung Kinabalu to reach Kundasang that were famous for its tourists attraction sites and rode down back to KK.  The Part 1 entry will be on the tourist attraction or must-go-places at Kota Kinabalu and Tamparuli first and Part 2 entry is going to be on the hottest tourist attraction places at Kundasang and Ranau. Though this entry may be incomplete or lacking in information here and there because it is based on my own experience but I hope it will you guys to plan your itinerary trip to this below the wind country, SABAH ;)

#1. Filipin Market , Kota Kinabalu.

Filipin market is a wood-style traditional open shop that sell handycrafts, pearls, accessories, Sabah traditional foods (Amplang, kuih cincin) and salted fish. The name of this market might confuse you like why Phillipine out of blue? We are in Malaysia still :D but it is actually because of Phillipine community that make a living there by becoming a seller in this market or so I think. You can hear the Tagalog accents very clearly if you pay attention to the voice around the market.
Basically, this market was divided into 3 whole separated markets in which the first one sells lots of handmade accessories, pearl necklace and bracelets, and also various kind of handycrafts. Whereas, the second market sells Sabah traditional foods that could not be found anywhere else especially here in Semenanjung. Do not worry because of the looks of it, it taste nice all the same and you gonna miss it I bet coz I’ve started to like the aftertaste of kuih cincin when my house run out of it :D And the third one specifically sells all sorts of salted fish (terubuk, gelama you name it), dried fish, dried sea cucumbers and anchovies (best quality and so cheap!).

Youngsters and hipsters sisters may dislike this place since it is extremely hot during the days since it was located betul2 sebelah laut. But if you go to KK with your mama or aunty, this place is gonna be like a heaven to them! Don’t forget to remind them on the luggage limit okay?

#2. Kampung Air Night Market / Sinsuran Night Market, Kota Kinabalu.

When we went there, we get confused with these two night markets and asked the local people about it with a painful leg and body duhhh.  Both of these markets actually sell almost similar things mostly Sabah handycrafts, pearls and accessories just like the one in Filipin market but of course with a better and cheaper price! That’s why these markets were always crowded with tourists, plus it’s at night and the weather is cooler and you can walk around the waterfront street with a nice sea breeze J The Kg. Air market is located a bit far from the Sinsuran market if by walk, it’s located closer to the centre of the city meanwhile the Sinsuran market located in the streets opposite to the Filipin market. If your hotel is located near the Filipin market or Todak waterfront, the Sinsuran night market is more accessible and you can just simply walk there while enjoying the breezy night.

So many accessories at the night market. Thats my mom dah mabuk pilih brooch :D

#3. Gaya Street Sunday Market, Kota Kinabalu.

You must wonder why Gaya, right? It’s because this Sunday market is located at Pulau Gaya and don’t fret it’s not really on an island where you have to go there by boat :P This market located in the KK city as well but a bit farther south from the Filipin market and Todak waterfront (I use these two as the main landmarks in the city). Just like the Filipin market and the night markets, this Gaya street market also sells Sabah handycrafts, pearls and souveniers but it also sells a lot more than that like plants, yes plants (anak-anak pokok), pets (rabbit, chicken, hamster, bird, and fish) and foods.
For the foods, I have seen one stall sells a pineapple in which they drill the hole in the pineapple so it become a pure juice and directly sell it. I find it weird at first but the foreigners totally liked it! It was like they walked around the market with pineapple in one hand,  selfie with it and enjoying it. Food evolution I must say, huh? But, mind you it is freaking hot there really..even though I am Malaysian, I still couldn’t handle the sweat and hot wheather very well huhu L Just make sure you prepare your sunglass, wear cotton and comfy shirt and drink lots of plain water.

Shades on, guys! The heat at this tamu (market) Gaya is no joke but the environment was so fun

#4. Tanjung Aru Beach, Kota Kinabalu.

True that Sabah has many beautiful beaches and Tanjung Aru beach is one of it. This beach located near the KK International Airport. The view at this beach just getting better especially during sunset, romantic feeling is in the air. I couldn’t say much about the seafood here because I haven’t  tried it because I usually fill my seafood crave at KK (I will write about it in entry ‘Where to eat at KK’ ok?). People is actually right, what could be more mesmerizing than witnessing sunset by the sea, right? If you have the chance and extra time, you should go and see..totally worth it.

#5. Jambatan Tamparuli, Tamparuli.

As we rode higher to the highland, we will cross path with Tamparuli. Just like the old Sabahan song, this bridge is still proudly there. You can reach this bridge after you pass through the Rumah Terbalik, it’s a one way road and easier to find. This bridge is a long bridge that has been used by the people there to cross the river and go to the other side everyday. By observing their life style, we should be thankful we did not have to cross any bridge by walking like them, it’s really quite hard and tiresome, whatnot with the hot wheather during the days..Honestly, I think that’s why people love to travel, it’s not all about taking a great picture and posts it in instagram and fb, but it’s about seeing how other people in the other side of this world live and make a living. Take a good point from them as a guide for a better life and take the bad point as a reminder for us to be more grateful to Allah and to be a better person J

1,2,3..wefie..masa ni mendung kejap so boleh bukak mata sikit

My hubby is sleepy on the bridge..

I will continue the Part 2 later, everyone..so stay tune ;)
